Unusual grille on bumpers for PORSCHE 911 circa 1965

Anybody have information about this strange grille on front bumpers ? This is for an early 65 911. The licence plate S-AU 21 is not for a 65 car but for an early 60's car.
For information I acquired this picture with photos of S-VN 13, Otto HAHNE personnal car.
This man and his father were very close to Porsche family.

Doesn't seem that anything drilled so haphazardly and installed in such a visible position would ever have left the factory.

Interesting, looks like it had a cut-out for the muffler on booth sides.

Can't be that early of a car, it has the two-screws horn grilles, 65 would have had 4-screws

Moito, don't those horn grilles look like the folded flat sheet with the side screw (from the hood side) and tab that tucks under the turn signal lights? The grilles that were reported to be hand shaped by new worker apprentices. And used prior to the cast grilles being available. Are these the ones you pointed out to me a few years back?

If they are - that would be indication of a special vehicle or a racer that knew the factory.

    Richard,
that is wonderful. We learn new things every day.

Can we get a weight of these thin plate (I would guess brass and chrome) vs. the heavy cast ones? They have to be super light in comparison.

    Thank you for sharing.

fap901 - sorry didn't mean to intrude on your posting. I would concur that the novel pattern of the drilled holes of the fog light opening covers leans toward an after factory item.
