This vs that poll on wheel choice, opinions requested...

Going to pick up some aluminum "steelies" for a second set of wheels. My 73 is not a show car. Not going to be restored. Just driven for entertainment on the regular. Enjoyed. Etc.

Both wheels look identical at first glance. Same size at 7x16 ET23

Option 1: Designed in the UK, manufactured in Italy. One piece, low pressure, die cast heat treated aluminum. Considered a "motorsport wheel." Priced accordingly.

Option 2: Designed and manufactured in So Cal. Two piece, machined (100%) 6061, welded construction. Has a durable paint that is noted as being bullet proof. Twice the price of Option 1.

    Thoughts?

My thought is: I want my wheels to not break. I want to trust them, and never think about them.
I would not want to drive on cast aftermarket rims.

In most cases. I think cast breaks/cracks while billet and forged bends.

Thanks for this. I followed up after your note above and learned a lot here. I was on the fence about the savings, potentially even getting and extra wheel or two (as a back up) if I go cast. Potholes are not a problem in my parts. I don't visit curbs often. But I'm sure I'm going to eat those words after the fact if I purchase cast. The Boyd option, though expensive, and priced accordingly based on build quality, would be ideal. Simply don't want to go all overkill here for some steelie like wheels...

Would be nice to find a deal like that. I'm going with a 7x16 though. Thanks for the heads up!

If you want 7x16 inch wheels , why don't you buy an SC , why are you putting them on a '73 ?

It already has 7x16 on it. Came that way. We like it. And there is nothing "pure" about our 73. It's just a fun driver with a mid 80s 3.2 in it. Obviously not trying to follow any protocol for the year here. Just want a second set of wheels for CO's seasons.

You get what you pay for.

Not sure about option 1 as I do not have any direct experience, but I am completely satisfied with my Coddington steelies.

    Best of luck.
