    1969 steering rack disassembly

I'm just beginning to tear into my 69 911T Targa project and I've got the steering rack removed and disassembled to a point. I'm missing something as the rack slides freely but it will not come out of the steering housing. Not sure what is keeping it in as it will go as far as 1/2" into the steering housing on each side. Anybody have a blow up of the internals I could view? Pinion and the end pieces of the rack are removed.

Thx, mystery solved. All I need to do is practice my site search capability as I did try but obviously missed this post. Now to get that carrier removed and source new parts. Unfortunately, my "plastic puck" also was broken but I'm confident I can get it 3D printed.

Well I can get the carrier to move but it will not come out of the steering rack housing. I suspect that I need to remove the bottom bearing but it is not obvious to me if that is the case or if there is just more pressure needed. I'm loathe to pry very hard as these aluminum parts are pretty soft.
So, if I need to remove the bottom bearing (base of pinion gear, not the "top" bearing that comes out with the pinion) can someone tell me the tool needed to do this?
    Thx

    ETG,
I never took my rack fully apart, so I can't help u there. It was already assembled and back in the car by the time I saw that pic. Does the rack go through that hole in the part shown in post #4? If so, I guess u wont be able to remove that part first. Sorry no help here. Do post pictures when u get it apart.
I would get the puck from SMC and try it first, probably stronger than a printed part. It snapped right on to mine.

Thx Bob, No the rack doesn't go through the hole you can view in any of the pics. The area of the carrier where the rack goes through is not pictured but it does appear to be a hole and not a slot (90 degrees from the viewable hole) as much as I can tell from looking at the disassembled parts. If so then I am missing something as there is no way you can get the carrier out until you can remove the rack. I will definitely post pics of this puzzling assembly once I figure it out.
