Thread: Early/Late Targa Bar Soft Window Upholstery?

Early/Late Targa Bar Soft Window Upholstery?

Was there an early and late upholstery panel on the Targa bar with a soft window?

I was just looking at a picture of an original car that is about 20 cars away from mine built in 9/67. First photo. Then there is another picture of a restored car from the other side built in 67', second photo. I bought original parts to put my soft window back and I got this upholstery panel, third photo. It's thick like the later but has slots for the handles instead of cutaway's.

Maybe this is a late 68' and early 69' upholstery panel before the vents came in and the single dome light went to the middle?

Thinking I may notch the metal and foam back to be more like the 67'.

Although not totally on point this thread may help. https://www.early911sregistry.org/fo...edge+targa+bar

I think that there is also a thread somewhere that says the '67 bar had no padding and the '68 bar was padded. Probably a 1/1/68 D.O.T. regulation compliance. Jim Breazeale will know for sure. I all likelihood your bar will look like pictures #1 and #2 of your thread because the production date is so close to the startup after the factory vacation period. Since you are in that period before "Federalization" I don't know if padded or unpadded. Definitely not picture #3 though.

    Soterik will also probably know.

Thanks for diecting me. I knew the answer was here, but I couldn’t find a thread. I figured Eric or Jim would have the answer.

So officially the pad I have is now for sale and looking for a earlier one.
