Experience with light weight (alum, fiberglass) hoods?

Curious to hear your experiences with light weight front hoods. Mine feels heavier than usual I believe its underside has been sprayed and re sprayed with sound deadening filler or god knows what. I'm having the car repaired and painted now so it seems the time to debate a light option. This is a '65 912 and I like the idea of pushing lightness, within reason. This will be a road car, visually stock.

    Here's a fiberglass option I believe works out to ~$900 https://www.f-s-h.com/Frond-hood-bonnet-for-911-65-73

Alum by Dansk is not cheap... https://sierramadrecollection.com/Fr...73-p27714.html

Also wonder what the market rate is were I to sell the factory part?

Why would you want a lightweight hood in a car that over-steers and is unsafe at any speed?

Doesn't look like a Corvair to me John... Also, not very complimentary of the 911R

Fiberglass is better for track cars. It doesn’t hold the right shape when it’s secured to the car. Some are better than others but it will never look like the original one. The aluminum ones are pretty nice. I sold a couple and the shop where I worked uses them quite often. They still are not a bolt in if you want fitted oem look. Every bit helps if you want to lighten your car but you won’t notice much of a difference switching the hood. And like John said, it doesn’t help weight distribution. Still, if it makes you feel better.

Just messin' around. No body likes 911R's more than I do. I just featured on my Porsche History Channel at IG.
