    Trick tool for adjusting valves

    Ok so I bought that little tool to help you adjust your valves. Wrong, it would be really nice if the engine was out of the car, but.

    Trying to wind your hands under/thru the fenders and exhaust and then hold the tool against the rocker, you need 3 small hands, nooo. So what I did was using the tools calibration to get the correct clearance when turning the tappet, I just did it by feel. Screw it down till it stops then turn back (like from 3 o'clock to 2 o'clock) and hold as you tighten the lock nut. So much for the tool.

    Good idea Kent. I have an engine on my bench and will get a comparison on the way you did it and the regular way to see what the clearance difference, if any, ends up at.

    Which tool were you using Kent, there's a few on the market?

    I tried this yesterday on a customers engine and found the results were very inconsistent. Customers engine has over 50K miles on it and maybe that's the reason. I would think an engine with new adjusters might work better with this method Kent.

    Basically just using the clock face method works for me. Just about the same as fighting the feeler gage. 3 o'clock to 2 o'clock is about right after you tighten the lock nut.

    New oil and filter and a test drive and all sounded good, now to bleed the brakes and a wash job, before we get rain all next week.
