    When Richard von Raffay presented the just invented petrol carriage in 1894 at Alte Rabenstraße 21 and boosted a car engine for the first time, it was a sensation in Hamburg. Ten years later, the first Raffay workshop was put into operation. In 1912, Raffay opened a second customer service point in the then already known Hotel Atlantic. Until the First World War, Raffay took over the representation of well-known automobile manufacturers such as Mercedes, Clement-Bayard, Renault, De Dion-Bouton.

    The Second World War did not spare Raffay either. In the end, everything was in ruins. But as early as 1946, Raffay negotiated with the British occupation. With success: In 1947, the first Volkswagen arrived at Raffay - but only for members of the occupying power.

    Raffay developed into the largest VW/Porsche dealership in northern Germany and was taken over by Volkswagen Retail GmbH in 2010 and renamed Volkswagen Automobile Hamburg GmbH
