    Deep Six Fuchs Valve Stems

I’m back in the long hood game again after 10 years. I just purchased a restored set of deep six Fuchs and about to install new tires. I have both new and old sets of the NAPA TR415 valve stems….the older ones are definitely the bulky ones. I don’t remember if the stems should just push into place by hand or if a special tool is needed. Is there a method to installing them or just brute force to jamb them into place. Below is a photo of the new and old stems….the one on the bottom is from +/-15 years ago.

So far, things look Ok, I would keep looking for taller base/bulb. I think you’ll need the thicker/taller bulb. Hopefully you have enough of those, I would not use the short bulb ones.
I kept looking and looking and found these DILL stems with the more bulbous, taller base, they can still be found.
They make a tool that threads on, and you pull the stem thru. Or better yet, lever against the rim down like blue arrow.

But, anything you can thread on and pull or lever will get it set.

I spray windex on the valve first.

(Photos aren’t deep6, but it was a rim close by, that I use the dill stems too)
I use the bulbous TR415 in my unmodified, deep six with hearts, i think they are 10/70, or maybe 5/70 and they had a pretty large stem hole. I tried the smaller bulb, but I was very uncomfortable with it, I do my mount and balance myself, current 'common' tire mounters struggle intensely to find the right stem, they don't have them, they don't know what to do...and you have to bring the fat TR415 to them....but like i said, I do it myself.

you seem to have a good understanding that the TR-415 comes in different shapes...a small bulb and a long bulb....i think only the long full bulb works with confidence....
i just bought some about a year ago. but I cannot seem to find any on the web this week. but i did have to look and look and look back a year ago.

If you cannot find Dill, these Milton’s might have enough bulb, but you would have to buy and inspect. The ‘overall length’ looks kinda short.

Thanks Scott…that tool makes sense. I’m sure the tire installer has one.

Were the valve stem holes modified by Harvey Wiedman ? If not , no valve stem you can buy currently will really fit correctly .

back in the day, I found some metal valve stems that fit perfectly and lasted forever. I believe the TR415 was for skid-steer and tractor application, so it's probably best to hit up your local Bobcat or John Deere dealer....or stop by tractor supply or Agway.
