Do you know if this later version will be ok in my car without any modification ?

    Thanks !

yes, its the same. I'm surprised you found that one. Usually we have to get the units rebuilt. there's a lack of rebuildable cores.

    Hi Ed,
You have to send yours and they send you a rebuild one.

    Here is the link :

So #26681 is the same than #71223702, any difference since part number is different ?

Never paid attention to numbers on the closing plate. If dimensionally the same and electrical posts are the same then you're good.

I decided to buy this cheap aftermarket alternator...

It has an integrated VR and as far as I understood I have to :
    1/ connect B+, D+/61 and D- on the alternator
2/ isolate the DF black wire

My question is about the old VR....should I disconnect all 3 wires ?
And since the red D+/61 coming from the alternator is connected to the blue one that goes to the dashboard red light it's gonna work (red arrow) ?

Historically when Porsche switched to internal regulators in 83 we saw more alternator problems. One rule for electrical components is to keep them away from heat,,,so where is the regulator,,,,, right above the hot engine. I prefer to keep the original set up

Might check the tensioning cap and nut …
Parts book suggest that there is a difference between the Bosch & Motorola ( nut M14 Bosch , M16 Motorola)
Not sure about the after market

Yes you are definitely right and my idea is to revert to the original set up ASAP.
The cheap alternator is a temporary/spare solution.

Just need to disconnect all wires at the external regulator and it works fine.
