    Windshield washer setup - 71T

Hey all, my windshield washer pump hasn’t worked in 15 years so decided to buy a new one. I leave for a 7 day tour to Scotland so thought it would be a good idea. I swapped in a URO pump which doesn’t quite fit on the side of the reservoir. More importantly it’s not pushing water out. I’m pretty sure it’s installed incorrectly by me. Can someone take a picture of their similar setup or comment on mine? Also, where do I put these washer pump bushings?

The new pump is also loud as thunder. It’s like a sport pump.

Take the pump out and put the in/out side in about an inch of water and hook it to 12V (a battery charger will work). Then u can see if it is pumping
Pull the bottom off the old pump and inspect. You may be able to get it running again.

The rubber plugs are for mounting to sheet metal not to the tank. They go in the 3 keyholes on the mount plate, and the long tits are for pulling the plate down to mount through the sheet metal.

So what do the letters D and P mean next to the nipples on the pump?

Which line goes where? I’ve installed and reversed and still nothing. Perhaps my extraction line is clogged.

Why is there an extra nipple on the reservoir? See pic. Do I leave that open? Is it for venting?

James, the open nipple is for a return line. But, it appears that your connections at the pump are backwards. On my ‘71T, the pump intake is next to the front panel. The output is on the interior, with the line running to the washers. This line has a “T” fitting, with a return line back to the tank. In other words, your black line should be on the other pump fitting; and should have a T, with a return line back to the tank. I’ll try to post a photo.

Pull the two tubes from the tank, one will have a filter on the end, that is the suction tube and it will connect to the S (suction) terminal of the motor. The D (discharge) pump nipple goes to a T fitting, one leg of the T has a restrictor in it, that leg goes to the second fitting on top of the tank, the other leg goes to the windshield squirters. Without the restrictor in the TEE fitting all the fluid will go back to the tank. Electrically the brown wire will go to the - terminal of the motor, the other of course goes to the + terminal.

Thanks guys. I don’t have a T fitting and don’t have a restrictor line back to the reservoir.

Not sure why a T line is needed. Won’t the fluid just come out of reservoir, to the pump and into the line toward the squirters?

This is a 1971 car photo.
I squirted it yesterday and it was working.

Hopefully you can make sense of the image

If I want to buy replacement lines for this, like you have Scott, what size, diameter in metric should I be looking for?
