    turn signal / flashers out

While driving today, I noticed my turn signals are out...right and left turn signals and the emergency flashers do not work.

my parking lights work...right and left work with the ignition off
I turn on ignition and the lights go off and no blinking.

I checked the fuses, and wires. All good. Wiring under the dash looks good. I made sure the 2 pieces of the flasher is tight.

This must be some type of ground? Where is the ground, multiple grounds to check to check?

    Thanks

There is a flasher relay behind the gauges, it’s square unlike the other relays. It’s prone to failure.

Actually its better to pull out the combo gauge, to pull the tach you need to remove the column jacket.

    Thank you for the replies..

the weird part: I went to the car last night to try to remove the tach. I then realized to remove the tach, you remove the steering column and the steering wheel? It was then I pushed the flasher button and the lights started to flash. I turned on the ignition, the signals were working. I really did not do anything.

I drove the car around the neighborhood for 20 minutes, everything worked. I drove home and pulled into the garage, turned the ignition off. I tried one more time the flasher, the lights DID NOT flash. The parking lights worked when I pulled down or up the turn signal stalk. I turned on the ignition and the parking lights turned off and no turn signal.

I go back into the garage 20 minutes later, push the flasher button, they FLASH, turn signals work.

Can this be a heat related issue on the relay? I will try to get to the relay today via the combo gauge.

I am beginning to feel like Clark Griswald chasing his tail trying to turn on his Christmas lights..

Hate to say how much I spent chasing a similar problem in my 1970.

    Hi Rick

I would pull the flasher relay and check it outside the car. It may be loose in the plug.

The hazard flasher switch sometimes has a mysterious and deleterious effect on turn signal operation. Oftimes recycling the hazard switch numerous times will clear the problem.

    Thanks for the help...

I pulled the combo gauge and saw the relay to the left. The wire harness loom was pushing against it, causing the intermittent shorting. I was able to bend the loom away from the relay, no more play, and it is fixed. I am still going to replace the original 50 year old relay.
