The door seals were replaced on the 73 911 and it now takes a big effort to close the doors. Like almost a slam.
Is this to be expected?

which type of door seals did you use?
J,
Same experience, though they break in a bit over time. I replaced the worn porsche style with the round ones, and the big drop in highway noise is worth the slam. You may also have room to adjust the window frame angles to require less force to close, though there are limits there.
Steve and I may drop by today and you can compare if you like

Porsche seals were used, the latest I believe.
I would like to compare, we may not be in the area depending on your timing. Thanks

There are two types of Porsche door seals available: (a) tubular form or (b) S-shaped form. Which one did you install?

Problem seems to be hardness of rubber. Compare with your old seals.

when i built my 1968 Targa
I made sure that the newer rounder ribbed seals worked perfectly
I then bought a "box" of new old stock rubbers with the original "S" profile and thy fit in the channels very loosely and will need shimming to achieve proper sealing
So.... you can fight to get yours to work or maybe go back to original profile and it will be easier to adjust without slamming the doors closed
You will have to expect time in fitting, and you want to use a dollar bill to test every few inches around the perimeter.
close the door on the dollar and pull out with moderate resistance will do it
The Stoddard brand tube style seals are a lot more softer than Porsche brand. They are half the price as well and work great. They will all break in over time and are better on hot days of course. I put 3M strip caulk under the seals at the front of the door area where the bottom of the vent window meets the door. This helps stop the wind noise.

URO ones are round, quite soft, and do a great job blocking noise. I also did not have to use any sealant to hold them in place.
Steve and I stopped by but you weren't at LM. We'll catch you next time.

Thank you for the replies. These seals are just too hard. I will check out the URO ones.
