    Help source 1969 Steering Rack Parts - gasket, seal, bearings

    Rebuilding my 1969 steering rack and after many searches here and elsewhere, I cannot find where to source some replacement parts:

    1. paper gasket for the backside puck cover. no idea where to find it, though it's not high pressure so i could make one.

    2. The oil/grease sealing ring for the Steering Shaft Pinion. Use any oil seal with spec 47mm OD, 28mm ID, 7mm thick? Mine like others is blue with an internal spring. It's still totally intact but I am pretty sure I am going to wreck it getting it out and want to know that a replacement is available.

    3. Pinion bearings: Looks like one SKF HK #1712 and one #6202 . Anyone confirm ? They might be marked but I'm not pulling #2 until I have a replacement seal.

    For posterity:

    Impatience won out, pulled the grease seal. Will update when I get the bearings out.

    Confirmed: 47mm OD, 28mm ID, 7mm thick seal, spring side of the seal goes inboard.

    I would reuse the seal. On my 69 used the following in 2020

    Qty 2-bearings 16002ZZ which is a Timken sealed bearing 15x32x8mm from Quality bearings on line. The original bearings did not have seals,but when I saw the wear and debris from the steering rack puck, I went with sealed bearings. Unsure of the price.

    Qty 1-seal 26x47x7 double lip $6.90 plus shipping from orings and more. Their item # 163464644908

    Qty 1-Steering rack puck $21 from Sierra Madre part SC,347.929.00. This is a hard plastic that is spring loaded which preloads the rack against the pinion. Mine was in two pieces when I took it apart.

    Qty 1-lock plate 901 347 248 00. This keeps the shaft bolts from loosening, which is a good thing for steering stuff. Make sure you keep the orientation of the shaft going to the first u joint or you will have to disassemble and rotate the shaft 180 degrees.

    Qty 2-boots for the tie rods. The turbo tie rods have different boots than Oem. Learned this the hard way!

    Just press the bearings in on the outer race, so you so not damage any ball bearings.

    I have pulled the pinion and the rack doesn't want to come out. I think there is some trick to getting it out -- do I have to remove the clips at the end of the rack bushings? The workshop manual says it should slide out, but the rack is clearly not coming out.

    Figured it out. The lower bearing pulled up about 0.5mm when I pulled the pinion, which prevented the rack from sliding all the way out. Got it apart.
