    Muffler Cerakote Color

Which of Cerakote's grays in their V series is the closest to the color on the early 911 mufflers?

Stoddard sells a spray for exhausts. It colors in pretty well after heating cycles.

Stoddard has been out of this paint for quite some time.

Per your other thread... which of the 2 greys are you trying to match?

I found that 10:1 of C-series glacier titanium:glacier black is fairly close to the lighter of the 2 greys, but lacking perhaps a tiny touch of blue. Hard to know without having a sample you are trying to match. It's very hard to photograph Cerkote or color match it due to it's high reflectivity -- in our out of the light it looks a totally different shade. 10:2 might match the darker grey.

BTW, the paint that comes on a new Porsche classic muffler is so weak and thin the muffler is literally covered in scratches from the dealer, and you can see it turning to powder. You can scratch it with your fingernail. I had to strip the whole thing before I would paint or Cerakote it.

The matching Pendleton blanket is a nice touch.

I had Shaun @ Tru6 Cerakote a muffler for me last year in a proprietary mix that he claims very closely matches the old Porsche factory gray. I haven't compared it to NOS or good original factory mufflers but I'm satisfied with the result.

Shaun's communication and turnaround time was very good but searching this forum will return a variety of experiences.

Thanks TheTorch for your post. I will bring a swatch to my coater to see if he can match it.

And I agree that whatever paint Dansk uses is a joke. It is useless and literally turns to dust. It wipes off with a paper towel. Why Dansk allows this to happen is beyond me. I guess when you are one of the only games in town you can get away with these kinds of things. The 356 community as been complaining about poor fitment issues for many years.

I can understand why Shaun doesn't want to share the formula. Too bad but I get it.

@teenchy The blanket was chewed by a dog and I have a hard time throwing away such a quality USA wool blanket, so it's become my go to for working under the car (sometimes on top of the creeper).

I know this is one area where wrong is considered correct because it is wrong so often . Early 911 mufflers through the first part of the 1970 MY were satin silver , look at original factory photos . I've seen numerous original exhausts that were silver , and have an original silver early '70 muffler .
