WTB: 68 passenger door top garnish

Yes, looking for the dreaded door trim that installs on the top of passenger door for the 1968.

I'm doing a frame-off resto and the passenger door had a 69+ door trim piece on it. See pic...it's missing the support bracket on the underside. Doesn't matter the condition of vinyl...I'm taking the part down to metal and recoving it.

The 65-67 version of this part does have the support bracket. Anyone know what the diff between the earlier part and the 68 version? Is the length different? What's keeping me from using this part from a 67?

Also, if anyone has the rear top trim piece for the passenger side, I could use that too. I have one but it's rusted out and will need some sheet metal mods to make it usable.

For those researching, the diff between the 65-67 top door garnish and the 1968 version is the "bump-out" at the door lock hole. The early models have the bump-out while the 1968 version is straight there. I have an early-model 68 so my door garnish had the bump still.

68s have the "support bracket"just like the earlier ones. The difference is in the padding. The 68 has a much thicker padding to meet the thicker 68 dash. 68s are "one year only" The one in your picture is a 69 or later, not a 68.

Yes, I show one 69+ (without the support) and that's why I was looking for a 68 version. I wanted to replace what I have. My car had some work done previously and they put a later model top garnish rail on the pass door. I had heard that the diff between 65-67 garnish and the 68 version is the bump at the door lock.

68s have the "bump" just like the earlier ones. It is covered with padding, though. 67 and earlier have the upholstery glued directly to the metal backing, thus exposing the "bump"

This is what I have. Of a 68 Karmann 912. I also notice, no inner bracket & a notch around the area of the lock button area.

As I sit in my 67 912, I see what you’re talking about the “bump”. Don’t know if my 68 piece has a bump or not? I think no. I’ll see when I get back home.

I parted out 12 cars 25 years ago, and the part in my pics was on one of the cars. It was on a 68 but I don’t know if it was original to the car I parted out or not.
