    Charles,

I'm still struggling to understand the 73 RS owners thinking on this one. I can possibly imagine he ordered a new case from Porsche Classic and wanted his original # on it, but why put this one out into the wild? Why not keep in a crate for down the road? Sell an original RS with 2 engines, one original, one Porsche Classic re-manufactured (assume it's somehow better???), both with matching numbers....?? What am I missing here?

That depends on what the seller was asking privately. Now the owner has the opportunity to only pay market rate (anonymously), with only them owning the the car that unlocks the maximum value of the engine and the car.

Actually it could be a very smart way to pay the least possible for the engine.

Or maybe they know something we don't about that case/engine. Hard to know.

Maybe he’s converted the RS to a BEV and slung the old IC engine ?

That's what I was wondering; does the owner of the car believe HE has the "real" engine ??

So, which RS was this lump originally mated with? If I had “the book” I would just post the VIN. C’mon, I know of a couple of likely individuals that have already looked it up.

The cross reference should be documented for history’s sake.
