    FS: @sports-purpose.com - 1968 911L USA Delivered

My USA delivered 1968L is now for sale, consigned at Sports Purpose in the UK.

    https://www.sports-purpose.com/cars-...orsche-911-l-4

Build date 12/67. Burgundy Red, matching numbers. VIN 11805158, Engine 3280556. Asking price is £120k

The car came to a lady owner in the UK in the late 90's via Ray Melton of New Mexico, and NASA (worth looking him up!) invoiced by his company Porschesource. It's an older, pre-export, US paint job, in Burgundy, showing some patina by now. But it's a solid, unmolested example, with a completely original elephant hide interior, and a fresh engine rebuild to standard 130bhp spec, followed by a $25k nose to tail run through and replacement of all worn parts, rubbers, bushes etc. with Prill Porsche Classics. All invoices available. Then 3k miles across Europe to see what I could shake loose and fix on my return. Not much.

I found the car in 2017 in the UK, with a replacement 2.2T engine from a 1972 switch documented in the file. But through a little internet digging and the help of this site I was able to track the original 2.0 engine down, in a 912 in Brisbane, Australia. So I bought it, imported it and reunited it with the car.

The car now looks period but drives great; I would not do anything to it. For those who, like me, enjoy the originality of these cars there are many dated items - if you'd like to see detail, I have many photos I have taken during my ownership. Even down to the dated trimmer's ticket inside the original seat covers.

As many know, there was no S for 1968 available in the USA, so this is one of the approximately 450 cars which were delivered to the US with S spec trim, gauges, running gear...everything but the engine. I have the original sugar scoop lights.

If you are interested call James at Sports Purpose. I am here to help with any questions on the car, or on my experience of shipping. If I can answer anything about what the car and I have been through together, just ask.

    Best,

    John

It was. I searched for the engine number on Google and found it in a 3 year old add for a 912. So I put a message on here asking if anybody knew where it was and I nearly fell off my chair when I got this reply from Australia! Anyway, good people, hassle free, long boat ride but worth all the trouble.

Car is now sold to an old friend who I know will appreciate it, and continue to use it and care for it properly. A good outcome for the hobby.

    Thanks for looking!
