    Alternator Rebuild

While I'm having the engine fan shroud and blades refinished in my '68 I thought it might be a good time to rebuild the alternator since it's out. Can anyone recommend someone for a rebuild.....or should I just buy a new one?

Funny you should ask. The bearings were getting really noisy on my alternator (‘66 911 original Bosch 0 120 400 522) so I removed it today. I’m in Southern California and found a couple of places in the valley that rebuild alternators. So the place I ended up taking it to is called Foreign Alternators and Starters in Northridge (818)772-1700. They seem knowledgeable, when I first brought it to their shop, they knew immediately it was from a Porsche. They took it apart and found that the shaft under the end bearing is extremely worn. They are trying to find a replacement shaft right now. Maybe somebody has one on this forum that they could sell me?

I had my alternator rehabbed when I rebuilt my engine last year. Automotive Rebuilders in Ipswich, MA did mine. New bearings and diodes. I bet he does 5 a day - Joe is an expert. Name: IMG_1575.jpg

i don't know where you are. however, i'd recommend quality power in yucaipa, ca. i understand that they do alternator work for canepa, although i have no firsthand knowledge of that. they have been very helpful to me in the past, however.
