    Reserve Auctions

Sell through rate is what counts so auctions are playing hard and fast on reserves. Know that you have options. Case in point:

A friend tried to list a C2 Corvette with BAT and they wouldn't accept his reserve price. He had the "goods" to back up his request, which if you know anything about mid-year Corvettes ('63-'67) made perfect sense, but they told him the car was worth around $55K and wouldn't budge. He moved on and sold it on Hemmings for $73,000. The car was very rare for the options it had which were ORIGINAL and documented (that's important). Air conditioning in the early 60's is quite rare on a Corvette but so were power windows (both on a convertible!). It also had power steering and power brakes. The color combination is one I hadn't seen in eons and spectacular. The car itself was as good as they get for a primo driver/show car.

His choice to "move on" paid off and I suggest we all consider all "options" when it comes time to sell.

I've never bought at an auction. They are rife with potential issues, not necessarily their own doing, BUT
the contract language protects them and recourse is "difficult" if not impossible.

    FWIW for the umpteenth time:

On the buying side, I suspect shill bidding is not uncommon, and I doubt BAT or others have the wherewithal or interest in trying to eradicate it.
