I have been a member of the registry for about 12 years now and have consulted with a number of longtime members over the years on projects I have acquired and restored.I have also purchased lots of original parts from many of you to help complete these restorations. I have to say my experience with the community has always been delightful and most helpful. I would like to share (still cannot believe) my newest acquisition which I purchased at the Broad Arrow Auction in April at the Air/Water event. Residing very close to the auction (5 miles) I stumbled on to the listing in the auction catalogue and began my research to find out about it. Truth is I believed this to be the same car Bob Fleming(who everyone knows) told me about some 8 years ago. It belonged to a friend of his and Bob apparently use to meet up with Glenn (the owner) at events in Minnesota as they probably had the only 2 '64's in their region. Correct me if I am wrong Bob. Anyways I called Bob and he confirmed it to be that car. I always remembered Bob saying the car had a prototype sunroof and was light ivory. Glenn owned the car since 1969. It was his most prized possession apparently. He left the car pretty much original including the interior. We all know sunroofs were almost non-existent on '65's never mind a '64. The stars were beginning to align. In my back yard I had a chance to acquire a '64 911. Myself and my team went to have a look on Friday before the auction. We met with Carl Bauer and Ray Shaffer who work for Broad Arrow. We all know Carl from the Lit Meet days. Ray was delightful and also very helpful on giving me access to the car. They told me there were a few boxes of miscellaneous items that go with the car in the back room. We went to have a look and shockingly in a box was a complete original 901 tool in museum condition, along with an early owners manual in German and a service booklet. Got one bank of solexes with manifolds also.I am in touch with the family to see if the other side can be located along with the air cleaner. Some other items also but those were the diamonds, especially the tool kit. I will try to post a few pics of the car but I am sure some will look at the Broad Arrow Auction site. I've showed the car a couple times at C&C locally and am getting mixed opinions on what to do. Restore or Leave alone. Car appears to have original floors in well preserved condition, window frames, working fuel door release, glass, door frames and all the widgets we look for in these early cars including the tall grill and decklid. Ive cleaned it up and fixed a stuck front caliper and driven the car a few times already. I own #370 which is a January '65 (also rear flat panel) car just finished restoring 4 months ago so I have a good template to use if we choose to restore #184. Forgot to say car is matching #'s of course. I will try to post some pics shortly.
