Exhaust System for 911R Hot Rod (EFI, 3.2SS) inquiry

    Hello dear forum,

I know I'm not particularly active here, but I really appreciate reading along and hope you can help me. I'm completely overwhelmed by all the options.

I'm currently driving a 911SWB with a 3.2SS (base: 3.0SC) engine. A Friedrich Motorsport system is installed under the vehicle. It's ok, but a bit quiet for my taste. I'm looking for something more throaty without having to convert completely to straight pipes. Something just before that would be great.

In addition, the current outlets of the rear silencer are in the middle, whereas I would like to have a different rear silencer with outlets below the horns (see attached pictures).

Danks was recommended to me. But I can only find these blatant racing systems there (see here: https://jpgroup.dk/de/p/Auspuf...-ge...1/18499/18499/). That sounds a bit blatant. In this and other forums, people always talk about SSI headers and DANSK ESD. However, I can only find SSI headers with heat exchangers. I no longer have a heater.

I would be delighted if you could help me with a tip or two.

    Thank you & best regards,
    Max

I am not aware of anything between too loud and too quiet. I've made one from a stock muffler that comes out under the guards, but I cut a lot of the internal baffles and it probably ended up being on the too loud side for you. I suppose it could be done by NOT cutting out as much of the baffeling, but then it might choke off some H.P. I suspect you'll somehow have to make your own to get the noise level you want. Maybe the company here in the states called "Rarly Eight" might have something.

Eisenmann are very helpful also with custom client requests. Just call them. The Race Version is without ABE due to loudness. Sport Version is with ABE

    Hey Oliver & edmayo,

Both great hints. Will contact both companies for sure! In the meantime I also contacted JP Group (Dansk).

THe person there wrote the following:

    Dear Mr. Marquart

We have 2 mufflers, which may be able to meet your wishes.

1620801700 in mild steel and heat resistant paint. (https://jpgroup.dk/en/p/Exhaust-rear...s/18758/18758/)

    1620801800 in stainless steel (https://jpgroup.dk/en/p/Exhaust-rear...s/18759/18759/)

Both with outlet ø63,5, and 760mm from center – center.

I am a little in doubt, if they are too loud, but you can hear the sound, in our sound studio.

Sounds great. but don't know if too loud. Anyone has experiences with this?

    Best,

…this was the system fitted to the ex Vic Elford and ex Nick Faure 911 SwB . It’s pictured on trade plates here but is much better known by its famous British Registration plate GVB911D. I took Nick for lunch to my club along with several RS/RSR owner pals earlier this month. Nick said “ It’s got the wonderful megaphone exhaust with amazing manifolds by Mike the Pipe“

I suspect Mike is longer actively making special “pipes” so didn’t bother to ask for an address.

Little reason to doubt his prodigious memory even though it was snapped at Castle Combe circuit in the scenic Cotswolds well over fifty years’ ago. Ironically a place where the locals were always sensitive to noise from the circuit.

Circuit is just a couple of miles away from this outstandingly beautiful village, it was owned by the Aldington Family who were also owners of the sole concessionaire for Porsche in Great Britain.

Maybe the racket from the cars stopped them talking to the animals — Castle Combe is the location where Dr Doolittle was filmed around the time this car was new.

I have. SSI headers with a Dansk large single outlet (60mm?) muffler on my 2.5, works good and not quiet. I’m going to install a Leistritz two outlet sport muffler soon.

Thanks so much for the answers.

@911MRP: That exhaust system looks mad!!! Are you sure that Mike is not anymore active?
