    Door stop for 1973 Targa

Sometimes the things that look easy turn into a pain......

I have read through a number of posts on door stays. My car is a 1973 Targa and based on the inside door paint and inside look at the reinforcement, the doors look original to this car and the reinforcement area looks original as well. I am looking for new door stops.

The first photo is the door stay I removed from the car. You will see it has a round stopper. Center to center for the bolts is around 40mm (1.57") - looks like a 65/69 90153103520 but the arm is different.

I purchased what I thought was a correct replacement from porsche 911 531 957 00 - but it had the square end. However this will not fit as the bolt holes on the unit are too wide. Center to center for the bolts is about 42mm (1.65")

I also had another version - third photo - which I tried. It was closer with the center to center being 37mm. (1.46") - this looks like 911.531.037.00

Has anyone else come across this issue? What would be a new door stopper that would work? Thanks in advance!

    Simon,

I believe the door stays with the exposed springs were used from 69-73 or 69-74.
In any case, you will want to get a pair of the ones in your last picture.

Around 1975 Porsche started using outward oval holes for door stop mounting. I believe this was to accommodate wider spacing of the later door stops. If you want to use later stops on early doors you will have to oval both holes outward about 2mm each. Rob
