There was no rectangular passenger side mirror supplied by the factory in '72 & 73.
For the right-hand drive markets (UK, Australia etc.), the factory was delivering all 911 types with a DURANT large circle mirror as they did in '69-'71. For those clients -in the left-hand drive markets- who opted for a passenger's mirror the factory was delivering the car with 2x Durant large circle mirrors.
The right-side rectangular chrome mirrors, I believe were introduced by Porsche Classic after 2010 or a bit later.

Wasn't the Drivers side a small rectangle in 1973?
1968 911L Coupe - Golden Green
1971 911S Coupe - Gemini Blue
1973 911S Targa - Signal Yellow
1974 914 2.3 - Sunflower Yellow
Not really. Also the title perhaps not too apt either?
This is a new lhd RS being factory collected so reasonable chance it is correct to specification For some markets
IMG_6929.jpg
But not all markets same so can’t generalise.
They made 911 both lhd and rhd configuration ( RL and LL) so not necessarily rectangular mirror as others explained.
The rhd which were exported to a number of markets around the world had the singular round “large” Durant mirror on the driver’s door; no mirror passenger.
This is the first rhd road test of British RS press demonstrator when new so likely representative

This is James Hunt’s 73 rhd RS with the circular Durant on right. Formerly property of Le Patron but photo taken when he was driving for Hesketh’s Team
IMG_6933.jpg
Perhaps not best authenticity reference ( seems to be mounted/hang low?) being Hesketh livery ( not lilac m). Evidently snapped after car had been resprayed following the altercation with the gate post of his Lordships Northamptonshire manor in 73 that I was only told about by a well known RS racer at the lunch I invited him to as part of his birthday celebrations a few weeks ago.
After he had become formula one world champion this photo in Marbella of same car it seems Hunt’s motor have become less “droopy”:

There are more nuances for example Sweden had a convex
reflector in the circular extra — not flat. As seen in this low mileage Swedish RS.
IMG_6923.jpg
This Swedish 73 targa has same setup. I believe it is photo of member of royal family of that country driving his personal car in 73

This is an example 73 RS lhd at motorshow around time of model launch

Rectangular mirror on driver’s side; none on passenger side.
Option M261 if selected was passenger mirror right but choosing that resulted in the “large” Durant round pair. I’ve seen discussion regarding the placement of mirror on door when pair selected — visibility vs symmetry — not sure it was conclusive.
Not my photos just sharing to illustrate that there are a number of configurations based on country equipment / national regulations but not afaik rectangular mirror on the passenger side in any of these configurations at that time
I’m biased but prefer the look of the neat round Durant compared to the jug-eared rectangular one on pre-impact cars circa 73:
