Thread: 1972 oil filler bucket location diagram or measurements

1972 oil filler bucket location diagram or measurements

I am sure this question has been covered here and elsewhere, but my search strategies are failing me thus far.

I am looking for the dimensions for the '72 oil filler bucket location, such as the measurements for the red arrows I added to the attached pic from a thread at Rennlist.

Perhaps someone has or can direct me to a template.

    Thank you.

Hoping these will be helpful. I can only measure the vertical measurement with the trim installed.

That is great, thank you. i suspect the lower edge of the trim likely aligns with the bend in the sheetmetal (unfortunately, the trim is off my car and in storage).

Another aspect I am trying to nail down is the alignment of the horizontal axis of the filler opening (as indicated in the red line in the attached pic) vs. other elements of the body. Most pics I see online, such as of the red car attached, suggest it should slightly angle upward forward relative to the top edge of the door when the car is viewed straight-in from the side. Of course, the quarter panel the buckets mounts into is curved, so it is a somewhat complex relationship.

A further question is whether the bucket is supposed to be welded onto the backside of the panel, or is butt-welded to it. This approach would make a small difference as to how flush the door sits with the surrounding panel when closed. From the Rennlist pic I attached of someone else's project, it looks like they butt-welded it. This seems like the best approach, but is it correct?

When printed to scale, this template might be helpful.

Excellent, thanks! That should be a great help.

EDIT - FYI to anyone needing the same info: when the JPEG is converted to PDF and printed at 330%, it comes out perfectly to scale.
