Can I use silicon grease when I install front A arm bushings

    Guys,

As I install new front A arm bushings in my 1973, I am wondering if it makes sense to pre-lube the bushings with silicon grease rather than the dish soap mentioned in the you tube videos. My distorted common sense suspects that the silicon grease would last longer and do a better job of suppressing squeaks. Most likely there already exists a thread on this topic but I was not able to find it.

thanks for any or all help and opinions

What and whose bushings are you going to use?

I think that they are either Paragon or Elephant racing. I bought them a few years back as I started to stockpile parts to convert my track car back to factory spec. Somewhere along the line I lost the instructions that came with them but i still have the two piece aluminium driver/guide. Also, the squeaky weltmeisters that I removed were 55 mm long but the new ones that I bought a long time ago are only 40 mm long. Is this normal?
    Thanks for the response.

If the bushings are from Elephant Racing , you will need dish soap to install them , I tried silicone grease . And you need to find some instructions , they need to be installed at a specific angle .

Call ER, they are helpful. Dawn would work but aloe gel too. Both are water soluble but dilute the Dawn some.

So glad that the use of petrochemical lubes, grease etc is not being recommended. It's amazing how quickly they can be damaging to rubber.

    Guys,
Thanks for all the help and thoughts. When I call Elephant Racing to buy the rear swing arm bushings, I plan to bring up the silicon vs. Dawn issue. Meantime, I am aware of the angle/index issue. My plan is to do one side at a time and make the new bushing set up equal to the old angle before I tear the old side apart.

Anybody ever use glycerine. I think Porsche at one time put a small bottle in the glove box kit. It’s very water soluble and was intended to preserve rubber. Walmart etc sell it in the pharmacy area.

Sorry, took a few days off. Glycerine would be just fine, water sol. Cross post over on PP and PeteKZ can help. He's been through it.
