    68 911L Ignition timing

Recently had distributor rebuilt chasing rapid timing advance. Can't get anywhere near TDC at 1000 rpm. I have been running MSD and Pertronix for about 10 years. Difficult to do static timing (for me) with Pertronix. How long does an MSD system last? Anybody had this problem? Any help is appreciated.

Pull the coil wire from top of distributor cap, lay it 1/4" from ground, rotate engine until an inch or so from TDC, turn on ignition and slowly rotate engine, see what timing is when spark jumps. That is your static timing.

    Hi ED
    Thanks for responding
I have tried your suggestion and get no spark at all? My sense is that MSD and or Pertronix should be involved? Isn't that where the power is coming from for ignition?
    Thanks Jim
