Front trunk carpets between 1969 and 1973

    Hi,
I am doing some research on front trunk carpets changes between 1969 and 1973.
I have established that 1969 carpets were specific to that year, still having straps on the central part but snaps on the side. Also there was a fourth piece of carpet glued to the front of the trunk.

In 1970, the central part was changed, straps were replaced by snaps and a piece of wood was added on the left side to avoid aving a hole were the battery was located on swb cars.

So here are my two questions.

Did the 1969 carpets also have the piece of wood? (The two I have seen until now don't seem to have it)

I have seen a 1970 car with the fourth piece of carpet glued on the front. Was this fourth piece still installed after the 1969 model and, if yes, until when?

    Thanks

Thanks, these are precious information for me.
And do you know if the wood plank was already there for the 1969 models?
I have seen 69 with and some without but always with central carpet with straps.

My car was 4th April 73 still had the wood so must have been very late and I believe carpet is original to my car (all the battery acid burns are in it)

    Hi Clyde

Being more specific from mid-May 73 the luggage compartment carpet no longer had wood board and other small differences for example became a tad shorter on sides. Probably change phased in from that mid-month date point as lineside inventory of old version consumed like many things not an absolute date I’d assume. Pretty sure my car has its originals with wood as it should since it’s calendar 72 build.

    No idea on 69.

If anyone has details on the gluing and orientation (I believe it's a trapezoid shape so one long side is longer than the other?) of the 4th front piece, that would be helpful. Was it glued at the upper edge, and to what part of the panel?

    Mine just flops around.

My 69 is running an original 69 carpet with straps and has the wood insert. FYI
