A Question for the SWB Dash and Electrical Experts Out There ....

Which dash knobs should light up on my US-delivered 1968 911 L? Right now when I'm running at night with my headlights on, only my fog light knob illuminates when I turn them on. While all of my instrument dials are lit properly, I don't have any illumination for the Headlight knob, Hazards or the Blower when I engage them (pull them out). I thought that all of the dash knobs had the light tubes in them and were wired for bulbs, but mine are all dark except for the Fogs.

Before I go digging around behind the dash, which knobs SHOULD light up? Thanks for the help!

Thanks Jim. I found this previous Early 911S Registry thread on this topic that seems to show differences in the SWB model years 1965-'67 versus 1968, with the differences really only being the addition of soft rubber knob surrounds and bakelite tops for US models. But this seems to imply that even the 65's-67's had lit knobs so the plot thickens as I'm hoping to get some clarity from this crew: https://www.early911sregistry.org/fo...7-vs-68)/page3

This may be of some help. Dr Brett Johnson’s 911 & 912 Porsche , Authenticity book , second edition. All central knobs above the radio have illumination except the rare optional fan blower and I believe it too was illuminated. cliff

All 3 knobs above the radio light up, including the fan switch knob. The headlight switch knob does not. The lighted knobs have a slightly larger threaded shaft that they screw onto.

Super, thanks Jim, that’s exactly the info I was looking for. Now I know what knobs to work on for wiring and bulbs!
