    different rim widths in 15"

    Hi

We have just been getting involved with the ST a bit so i thought i might post something in case it helps others.

We had a customer who had 8" and 9" rims

he had been fitting Michelin TB tyres.

Which are great. However the Michelin TB rage are an out and out tarmac Rally tyres. They aren't built for Longevity in the slightes, even though they are fantastic tyres, they are road legal, and they look fantastic.

As a road tyre the current range of Pirelli P7 tyres are fabulous, (as are all the Pirelli Collezione range such as the CN36). They do a range of 15" and 16" classic Porsche tyres. At the bottom of this page if you scroll down there is a table with dimensions, on that table is also recomended rim widths.

What is worth noting is that the recomended rim widths are from the ETRTO. in many countries these are not a legal obligation because some car manufacturers ignore them and fit bigger wheels that the ETRTO recomends So there all sorts of examples of stretching tyres on to rims or fitting tyres on slightly thinner rims. race cars also often stretch a tyre onto a rim, because part of the reason to have tyre over hanging a rim is to proptect it from a curb.

this is a good picture showing a 225/50R15 P7 stretched onto a 9" rim, when really it is recomended for a 6"-8" rim

that has a 285/40R15 P7 on an 11" rim on the rear.

we have also got involved with a chap who had 9" rear rims and wanted the 285/40R15 P7 on the rear for which the ETRTO recomendation is 9.5" to 11", and here is a picture oh his 9" wheels.

    That's my green car above.
I do not consider those tires to be "stretched" as to me they fit perfectly.
There was still some overhang from the tires on the wheels.
The Pirelli's are great street tires....way better than the Michelin TB line for rational street driving.
The Michelin TB tires fling too many rocks IMHO.
