    Rear Panel originality

This was posted in my other restorations thread - but I wanted to get an answer to a question. Do folks believe this is an original panel or a replacement? It's on my 1968 911L. The car is very original, but it does have this label on the back of the license panel.

I remember notes like that on replacement parts, from the 70s & 80s when I worked at a used car lot.

I think it’s an early replacement. Originally, the reinforcement plates were glued which yours appears to be. Later replacements and repops have those plates spot welded.

If it's not the original panel it's an original period replacement , so what's the worry ?

    70SATMan,
I remember, Jonathan Schneider, showed me his, low mile, highly original white 1971 E, it has the spot welds showing thru his paint on that rear panel. he even brought that up and pointed it out.
Do you know him and the car, he lives close to you?
Is that car not early enough for the glue?

Yes , not early enough . I've seen early '70's with glue and later '70's with spot welds .
