    High mount brake lamp idea

    Hello group,

With concern about inattentive drivers and the height of factory brake lamps, I've been working on unobtrusive high mount brake lamps for my '71 911.
I've designed and 3D printed a prototype holder for 5mm LED's that fits in the cabin vent slots above the back window seal. Final install would have one on each side placed in the third slot from the end due to inside shape of water deflecting shield, held in place with small neodymium magnets. Will require one small hole drilled through directly behind each lamp assembly, and wiring run before headliner installation.

I think this is just about as unobtrusive as possible for adding high mount stop lamps to an early 911, I'm pretty satisfied with the result.
Below are some images for you to see the results of the prototype, I'm interested to hear what you think.

Great idea. Been wanting to place something similar in my Targa.

Thanks Peter. I guess you would have to mount it inside the car, on the underside of the roll hoop in a targa. Could be done but the LED holder would have to be in a little housing.

Here's my solution - a Hella R type of lamp with 2 led bulbs, but I guess that you were trying to make something a little more inconspicuous?

Hi Ralph, Yes, I wanted them to be as inconspicuous as possible. Do you get much glare from yours inside the car at night?

No it's not too bad at all - that's what I was worried about as I had read that a lot of internal lamps if they were not fixed onto the glass gave a lot of glare.

Chris P has the better idea. Wiring is there and no need to muss with the headliner.
