I have modified them by updating the check valve cage, ball and spring.

Wow ! is correct , you need the newest style tensioners , new style idler arms and new idler gears that have a bushing . I had an idler gear seize one time - engine stopped , bent valves .

You can add this to secure the system...

I used those early ones for years in the 70s with no problems after rebuilding them with check valves,, The regular rebuild kits work. They depend on oil dripping in the cup so the collars might not be the best idea even if they fit. The idler pullies are bushed in early motors and not an issue, don’t remember if the idler sprocket is.

The idler sprockets are absolutely not bushed in early motors , and what are idler pullies ? . And update the idler sprocket arm , the early ones are not bushed , #1 cause of tensioner failure .

You should do the updated tensioners, idler arms and chain wheels. I did the early tensioner by request, don’t know if it was installed or if it worked. Anyone rebuilding tensioners would have dozens of leftover parts, as tensioner kits come with all the parts. These were all the updated parts I used in the old tensioner.
