    Swb wiper motor wiring - advice needed b4 bang heads at the workshop

    Hi All.

    I have just collected my wiper motor for my 65 from the workshop. It was blowing a fuse as soon as the switch was flicked.

    I have it connected as follows:
    53: BLACK/PURPLE.
    53A: RED.
    53B BLACK/YELLOW.
    53E: BLUE
    BROWN earthed to the body of the wiper motor.

    Upon connection, I find that ONLY THE SLOW SPEED IS WORKING - wiper switch position 1.

    Before heading back to the workshop, I want to ensure I'm not missing something. Using my multimeter, I found the following:

    POSITION 1
    53/BLACK/PURPLE: 12V
    53A/RED: 12V
    53B/BLACK/YELLOW: 12V
    53E/BLUE: 0V

    POSITION 2
    53/BLACK/PURPLE: 12V
    53A/RED: 12V
    53B/BLACK/YELLOW: 0V
    53E/BLUE: 12V

    POSITION 3
    53/BLACK/PURPLE: 12V
    53A/RED: 12V
    53B/BLACK/YELLOW: 0V
    53E/BLUE: 0V

    I want to try and get a better understanding of what's going on. According to a Google search, the numbered connectors are:

    53 wiper motor + in
    53a limit stop +
    53b limit stop field
    53e stop field

    But I don't know what this means. Can someone explain? Which are the terminals for the 3 speeds? And what do LIMIT STOP, LIMIT STOP FIELD & STOP FIELD MEAN? I guess this relates to ensuring the motor returns to its stop position, but surely not all 3 connectors?

    My limited brain power tells me that:
    RED is slow speed
    Blue is medium speed
    Black Yellow is high speed (and if this is the case, my multimeter's reading of 0 VOLTS at switch position 3 suggests a switch or wiring problem)
    Black Purple is PARK.

    Any advice would be appreciated so that I can say, with confidence, to the guys at the workshop that they still have some more work to do.

    According to the schematic in my Driver's Manual for 65 911, Edition 1/65:


    RED is Power from fuse block (#4)
    Blue is position #1
    Black Purple is position #2
    Black Yellow is position #3

    Thanks very much helping me out. I too have a 65 owners manual, but I couldn't see from the wiring schematic which wire representd which speed/switch position.

    Does your diagram look anything like this:

    Yes it does, where I assume based on switch positions shown on page 40 where:

    0 = off
    1= slow
    2 = medium
    3 = high speed

    I'm going to pull the switch apart and check everything is OK there. And if that is the case, then I can go ack to the workshop with the motor and ask them to investigate further.

    Given all that goes on in that multipurpose switch, there's a good chance the problem lies there. Remember, there's a plug connection under the dash you can use for diagnostic purposes. Happy hunting!
