    Ball joint removal 1968

    I have not been able to figure out the best tool and procedure for removing the from steering arm ball joint. Any help appreciated. Thanks

    Have you tried to use any of these, put them in tension and use a hammer to strike the outside of the strut arm base (not the ball joint). Usually - that works very well on motorcycle flywheels for example - the whack of the hammer on the outside creates a sufficient disturbance in the metal to let the piece that has been inserted pop out. That is my experience.

    I use a pickle fork, but only if your going to put a new ball joint on as you will destroy the rubber boot on the old one. Also easier to do on the car

    Sense the ball joint is junk now, I air hammer the threaded end. The contact is tapered and they get real stuck. I find shocking the piece with an air hammer gets best results.
