How to remove 911-108-167-00 Clip for Air Filter housing

Repainting the air filter housings. These clips are difficult to remove and replace-of course the cotter pin and tube need to removed first.
Any clever ways to do this without scratching the new paint when re-installing?
    Thanks

Pretty easy, take a pair of needle nose pliers and bend back each of the cotter pin tabs, then use the same pliers to pull out the cotter pin

I have taken out the cotter pin. But the rest of the clip is very stiff to spread apart so it will come out of the holes. I have removed one, but could not replace without scratching the paint.

I use a flat external snap ring expanding pliars. Put one ear in the hole and expand other ear until it will go in the hole.

    That is so clever!
I ground half circles on the sides of the pliers to trap the clip wires. Works perfect. Hope the pic shows it.

Everyone should have snap ring pliers, I rounded the outer faces of a pair to remove oil bypass valves.
