    Wurth SKS stoneguard alternatives

    Hi !

I was considering Wurth SKS Stoneguard to undercoat my 911 2.2t. I live in Europe and it seems that shipping restrictions apply to this product, according to Stoddard.

For you guys living in Europe, what is a good alternative to the SKS stoneguard, having in mind that I wish to have the same visual finish as orgininal which looks quite "unrefined" with a thick and gross structure.

I have read about Teroson SB S3000. Has anyone used this ?
I have also seen that Upol Gravitex is sometimes mentioned in relation with F 911's.

    Thanks for your input,

    Phil

Very happy with gravitex...getting ready to use it on my 4th early 911 restoration, and if available to you I'd highly recommend it. It is available in grey which was the original color applied...then depending on year, sprayed over with black or the main body color. Personally, I hate the 'black' look even if it is correct....unless you have a black car.

    Hi,

And can you replicate the same visual finish as original with Gravitex?

I have not had good luck replicating the original pebbled finish with stonegard, probably my lack of technique. I seem to do better using the sprayable seam sealer which also is beige. It seems to set up quicker rather than flowing out before setting up.

Ed - I am always willing to try another product. Do you have a product recommendation (name) for the sprayable seam sealer you have had luck with? Do you still use the WURTH/UPOL type undercoating gun to apply it? Thank you.

I used the Wurth seam sealer, but you'llhave to buy the gun to shoot that.

    Hi guys !

Well Stoddard cannot ship Wurth SKS stoneguard grey over the pound. We will go for a grey Terroson product.

This morning, talking with the paintshop, he was suggesting to shoot some beige over the grey to match the beige colour the rubber protection had on my car on the floor boards, with some Irish green overspray at the sills level.

Now I have a doubt, was the rubber they used at the factory beige or was it grey and with the cosmoline treatment and age it turned beige ?

What do you guys do usually, apply grey and leave it ?

    Thanks

    Phil

    Nope! You can’t

I can replicate the original Porsche finish of SKS stoneguard but you must use the Würth multisprayer not a Shultz gun. I would just find a source for SKS in Europe not ship from Stoddard. There isn’t much like Würth, I’ve seen and tried Upol stuff and I’m no fan when you can do it RIGHT with actual Würth products. They don’t make it in grey which is a bummer but you can paint it. Recreating an underside look of a car to be the same as original is an impossible mission - especially when paying someone else to do it. This is a highly debatable area of what is right and it changes by year or Karmann vs Porsche factory.

I’m using the Teroson product on my restorations succesfully.

You can replicate any Porsche finish very well. Of course it takes some experience and testing.
