Koni 86-1647 Inserts and Boge Strut Housings

    Hi Everyone,

I thought I'd share some information that I hope will be of use to someone in the future.

I'm going through a full front end refresh on my 73.5 911T, which was originally spec'd with Koni struts in the Boge strut housings.

A previous owner had installed a set of Koni PN 8641-1077. From my googling, these appear to be 914 strut inserts. The new strut inserts I'm installing are Koni PN 86-1647, going into Porsche Boge strut housing. Porsche PN for the Boge strut housing is 911 341 080 04, and 911 341 079 04 (080 and 079 signify left and right side).

Here's where things get interesting. The top of the Koni 86-1647 strut insert is different from the strut inserts the previous owner had installed. This meant that the gland nuts supplied with the new Koni's would not work. The diameter, thread pitch, and overall length was wrong for the Boge strut / Koni 86-1647 combination.

At the advice of prior threads, I contacted Jason at Paragon - great guy, very knowledgeable as I'm sure many of you know! - who put me in touch with Mason O'hara at Koni. I called Koni's main line (859) 586-4100, and left Mason a voicemail, and he very kindly sent me the correct gland nuts.

    tl;dr

If you're installing new Koni PN 86-1647 strut inserts in your Porsche Boge 911 341 080 04, and 911 341 079 04 strut housings, you will need to contact Koni and order Gland Nut PN 73 25 01 005 1. This is a Koni part, not a Porsche part, and as far as I know can only be purchased directly from Koni. If you really want to simplify your life, just call Jason at Paragon before you try ordering all the parts yourself, and he'll make sure you have what you need

Hope this helps someone in the future.

Great post Kellin... I ran into a similar challenge with original Koni struts to new Koni performance inserts...
The new gland nuts wouldn't work with the old struts, and the old nuts wouldn't work with the new inserts...
Jason was the man, and had the adaptive gland nuts in stock...

    Cheers,
