Private visit to a world land speed car renovation

Special day yesterday had a private visit the workshop where the first car to exceed 200 mph — a world land speed record car — is being restored.

The Beaulieu National Motor Museum is in the beautiful New Forest on the south coast of England. The curator invited me to a private visit. Seemed a bit selfish to go alone so I took a couple of close pals along from my F1 days who would appreciate such things.

The Sunbeam from Wolverhampton in England dates from around 1927, it had almost 1000hp produced by two separate 22 litre (1,367 cubic inches) V12 engines. one at front and at one rear.

So it seemed apt before having dinner pop in to see the Seagrave Trophy at its home in the Seagrave room in my club when back in St James, London

In addition to spending some discussing activity behind the scenes in the workshop with the lead restorer and his team we were later shown around the world-class artefacts collection — the tens or thousands of the rarest automobilia items held in in deep climate controlled acid free storage in areas general public not allowed to see.

Rare treat and kind of curator to invite me.
    Quite a day!
