    Hot Start Issues

Would anyone know what the weird issue is please? I cold start the car, cranks beautifully as it should, I take it for a lovely spirited drive lasting maybe 25mins or so...I stop somewhere, turn off the engine and do my thing, shopping etc. Come back ten minutes later, I turn the key and it's all quiet just a buzzing noise, no cranking noise and yet eventually the engine still starts albeit with no 'cranking noise'...

So far I have been told to install a relay to the starter (masking the problem apparently) and or, replace the ignition switch...they're available for about $300+ and I'm cool about that but want to check here first in case anyone has had a similar problem...car is a 68 SWB with 2.0. Thank you!

My usual fix for that problem is to install the 1.5 hp starter.

Ed, do you have a specific 1.5hp starter you like to use?

Thanks Ed. Do you find that this SR68 works on the early (901 trans) cars?

That’s Ed, also thanks Al Agustin for asking the initial question.

So. On my ‘72 (with stock MFI that Gus went through a few years back), I have the 1.5 HP starter motor and can often still have the same “hot start” problem. Starts beautifully and consistently cold. But if I drive to the local C&C and stay for an hour or so, when everything is still warm, starting can be a crap shoot. I’ve tried various levels of the throttle lever, various input on the throttle pedal and nothing has given me confidence that I’ve found the correct solution. I’m always just happy that I get it started so that I can head home. Thoughts on what I may be missing?

Peter are you saying the starter won't crank the engine over at all.
