Question Engine revs rising and falling

I’ve notice recently that after longish drives, when going back to my garage, the engine revs start rising and falling fairly quickly. After a couple of minutes, it steadies itself but then idles at around 1300-1400 rpm’s.
Any ideas or thoughts what might be causing this issue? Any help is much appreciated.

Possibly advance on distributor is being activated. If distributor has vacuum hose then perhaps there is a vacuum leak that is affected by heat.
