    Pinion

Would this be of interest for our early 911s?

    7:31 Ring & Pinion for Porsche 911,914,904,906,907,&910

    And how would this differ?

The 7:31 would be OK for a track car (without speedometer), and was a standard ratio for the early cars. Porsche went to an 8:31 in the 915 in about '77, maybe, with the 911SC?

The 6:29 was used on the 912, I believe, and provides a 4.83 final drive ratio, as opposed to the 4.43 of the 7:31 R&P. This makes for some low gearing which might be suitable for autox or short course racing.

I ran a 6/29 in a 1967 901/05 car many years ago, and it was awful on the highway. It had great acceleration but the revs were too high cruising at 75MPH. I love the sound from these cars, but it became tiresome on long trips with the engine reving so high.
