Were there ever any alum door glass frames with operable vents?

1968 911's & 912's had aluminum door frames with vent windows that open. I see no reason why they wouldn't fit into a '71 911.

The '68 frames look very similar to the 1965-7 polished chrome over brass window frames, but the polished aluminum finish is slightly more aluminum looking. The '68 frames are noticably lighter than the earlier frames. Note that there are slight differences between the 1968/newer and 1965-67 window frames. The key difference is that the upper and rear channel on the '65-67 frame is a little deeper and requires a different window felt. Also, the door on a '65-67 requires some slight modifications in order for the '68 window frame to fit. I ran into some difficulty putting lightweight '68 window frames into my '67S. I was able to get them to fit but I need to do more work to make them fit properly so for now I'm still running the '67 frames.)

when I looked into this (to backdate my '73 doors to have opening F. 1/4 windows), I was told that the Al frames bend easily and foster wind noise. I was told to get the brass frames even tho I was concerned about the extra wt.

Wow! Learn something every day. I didn't know that aluminum window frames existed. I remember being angry after my '69 912 was delivered...no longer could I flick cigarette ashes out the vent window like I could in the '66.
Not as important now...I quit my pack a day Camel straights habit over a decade ago. Anybody want to buy an old Zippo with a Porsche crest affixed? If memory serves, I bought it for $6.95 from an old Stoddard's ad...

Paul, your car should have alum frames. I just didn't know about the opening vent. One year only makes them sorta rare. Most who want openable vents settle for chrome frames from a Targa.

Yeah, but the question is, will the Targa frames attract a magnet? I don't think they will. So, really no conclusion other than your S should have the alum. I'm not sure what the proper way to test for chrome over brass vs. alum. Visually, I think I can tell.

If anyone here is interested I have a pair for sale - no clue what "metal" they are... I will make a point to inspect them closer.

As you can see the vent windows are missing.... I have a set of targa window "frames" that I could sell with this coupe set - I do not know if they swap right over..?

As usual the pic needed to be microscopic size - email me for larger pic - or I can take different pics if someone has genuine interest in a purchase.

I think the idea of smoking windows in a coupe is very cool....

PS I was just thinking about these - I am fairly sure they are the brass version - and they are in decent shape.

Those look like the chrome plates brass ones.
