Thread: Twin Plug Cap & Rotor Type?

Twin Plug Cap & Rotor Type?

Does anyone know what type of cap and rotor this is. It's a Levtech distributor from a company out of FL. 3 screws hold it in place. It's in good shape, but would like to find a spare cap and rotor for the future. I'm hoping it's from a 12cyl Jag.
    Thanks,

    Hello Boddy,

I think, IT is Magnetti Marelli parts.

    Marelli

Hello: The cap and rotor are Marelli. Does the cap have the coil wire plug-ins the same length? If so the cap is a Porsche style cap, if not then it is a Jag type cap. I know there may be other twin plug Marelli caps as well. Since it is a converted distributor more likely a Jag cap, much cheaper to buy and find. I have heard they make a reprodution Porsche 12 cylinder cap, but have not seen one yet. The one I have is original Marelli from a RSR. Thanks Eric

    hi guys,

It appears to be a Jag cap with a home-made rotor. caps are about $80.00 dollars for aftermarket and $120.00 for O.E.M.

    Keep the replys coming

Thanks fellows. I'm still not sure what this is, so if anyone else is familier with it, let me know. I serious doubt the rotor is homemade. Maybe the photos are not clear enough. Any other thoughts on this ??????? Does the Marelli cap have clips are is it a screw down mount?

    Bobby,

Its definitely a Jag cap. It looks like the O.E.M. (magnetti marelli)variety due to the matte finish. It bolts down and has the same pattern as the 906/911R style caps. I can't help with the rotor, but it looks like a modded V-12 rotor. Just a guess. Is it yours?

LOL, I knew you would say that!

I am compiling pics and outlining for easy understanding(really). I think there is some confusion over a single plug Marelli and an original twin plug unit that needs to be addressed over on Pelican. For some reason people keep bringing up Bosch single plug units...

    Sorry about the Hi-jack.

Bosch cap has a slightly larger bolt spacing and a larger rotor. The Bosch used a thermoset material(phenolic). The Jag cap used Thermoset and is post machined for the O.E.M. unit. The aftermarket unit uses Themoplastic and no post machining . It is more cost efective to use the Jag cap as they are relatively inexpensive and readily available. The Bosch unit is a nice piece as is the O.E.M. Jag cap(Marelli)
