Porsche farmed out body construction to Karmann on some 911s and 912s through the '60s. Karmann and other builders built bodies for 356s also. While the SWB Porsche built body SNs began with a 3 the Karmann bodied car SNs began with a 4, through '67 anyway. I'm not sure how to distinguish a '69.
Are there differences in quality or fitment with new parts? What do you guys think about this as a project? Thank you
A rusty car with that roof and cowl damage isn't something I would personally get involved in. I'm not so ambitious.
I have an early 911 with a Porsche body (301368) and an early 912 with a Karmann body (450355). I've not noticed any glaring quality issues between them.
Thank you for the clarification. I agree this car is beyond salvaging.

Yes, someone bought it, but based on the pictures, I wouldn't spend the time or money fixing it. But as Parts?
From what I have seen, it would be possible to break that puppy down and sell the parts for more than the $2500. I mean, what is the price for 4 Fuchs that need refinishing? Am I way out at $400 each?
And, memory fails, what was the year that Porsche went from SWB to LWB?

Hmmmm...I got a 72 911 with a 2.7 in it with all the RS 'glass goodies intact for only $950 cdn (what's that?.....like $700 USD?). But there's a problem with that sort of buy. I can't seem to let go of any parts. It's a strange unexplainable mental issue I reckon...not unlike packratting). In fact, I've sent all the 'glass stuff and the hood out for soda blasting. This hobby seems to be sucking me in head first.
