My question is would a R wheel have an R stamped on the wheel itself on the backside? There's no part number for someone painted it but there's whats looks to be is an R stamp.

I recently stumbled over some 7x15s that turned out to be the real deal so I'll pass along what I learned. The factory typically ground off both the "6" in 6JX15 and also the last digit or all of the part number (one of mine has just the last digit, the other the whole number). It was replaced with the part number 901 361 012 05 (according to Anderson's book). This was stamped with a ink type rubber stamp so it is unlikely that it is still there or readable. Having never really looked at one of these wheels closely before, I was amazed that the factory would sort of crudely grind away the number and replace it in this manner. I figured mine were just sixes someone widened. But once you de-mount the tire it's obvious if you have real ones, no safety bead and no weld. Mine are also date stamped 7 of '68. I'm sure Schmidt will have something to add to this, he educated me on the subject.
I have had several 7R rims. I have 2 at the moment, one dated 67 the other, pictured below, dated 6/70. The early one has no R stamp but the later one does.

Notice how they turned the rim as it was withdrawn from the paint dip process.

Yes Nick thats how the R looks now I'll check the year. Thanks
Nick, You interested in selling the 6/70 wheel? I have a 6/70 and am looking for a mate. Mine has a R stamped on the front hub ring of the wheel but, I don't recall seeing a R stamp on the interior.

Reading this post I decided to go and check a set I have and see if they have R's... and they do, but different part number than what is mentioned in previous post. So what does that mean?
911 36 1020 10 are later flat 6's
Don't know what the R is there.

One of my R wheels dated 7 67 has the R, the other dated 9 68 has an A.
Nick, how did you get that wheel so clean?
Might be a forging mark - "hey Dieter, the dies for 'R' are worn out, go get the 'S' dies."
