    Oil Filters; Are They Different?

    I recently ran out of oil filters for my 911, and rather than call Stoddards, for my yearly supply, I went to my local Auto parts store; They had problem getting an oil filter for my 67, and in the end, I called Fram, Bosch,& Mann directly; I ended up, with prices all over the map; ie; Fram $15.00; Bosch$6.00; Mann; $8.00;
    My question; What if any, is the difference in these filters. ? The local Porsche dealer, said to stay away fro Fram, as they were Crap. Comments?

    Did you try Mahle? I'm not sure of the exact number for a '67, but Mahle is very popular, considered a same as the original purolator replacement for the '72 and up cars...

    I was told Mahle, and Mann, were the same filter. Not sure; Never thought about Purolator..

    I was referring to the old Purolator PC260...sold in the USA market, usually by dealerships. Orange or reddish in color. It was made by Mahle, painted with the Purolator logo...I currently use the Mahle OC54 for my 2.4...it is in all visual respects identical to the one old Puroloator PC260 I still have sitting on my shelf. But if I'm not mistaken, your 2.0 should use a different Mahle filter than my 2.4. I have no idea whether Mahle & Mann are the same.

    There was an article in Up Fixen from 70 or so that stated the Fram filter didn't have some pressure relief valve built in. I use Mahle and factory filters, but I change oil way too often every 3 months or so because of the condensation factor.

    Fram's don't have that valve. And don't forget about Wix. They make filters for a lot of other names, and they had my '66 filter on the shelf at AutoZone.
