The fate of a Sports Purposes 911S

Rick Cabell wrote an article way back asking where have the Sports Purposes cars of 67-68 gone? What is left of one surfaced at the Watkins Glen Zippo event this year. It is now on E Bay, item# 4584101527. Maybe someone here can post the E Bay pictures. It a 1967 911S with Rally Kit, a Roll Bar, big tank and I can not remember what else. Anyway I think most of these short wheel based Rally Kit cars suffered the same fate as this car. Progressed into a newer race car and raced into the ground. I think now though it might pay to put a car like this back to original again given today's values. You would certainly need a donor car and some big $$$ that is for sure.

I am curious as to how many cars were built with the Sport kit 2, and Rally kit. I am sure it was alot less than RS production. Seems to be a real 67/68 thing. Mainly 68's. I understand 68 was the year the Sport Purposes booklet came out. Definatly the coolest of times!

A customer of mine has a '67 911S with the rally kit. It's very original with only about 7000 miles. It's one of the coolest 911s I've ever seen.

Does anyone have a early/origianl photo of what this car would look like if it was totally restored as an "Sports Purposes" car?

They more or less look like ordinary early 911s except for the details. In fact you could also buy the special parts at the dealer to modify a stock car yourself. My orange car with the exception of the race numbers is pretty much how it was delivered. The silver car has had the stripes and hood mounted lights added. See my site http://www.Porsport.com for pictures.

Rally kit 911S, Sport Kit II.

For those interested in photos of a "sports Purpose" car, there are 17 photos of a green 1968 Porsche 911 S Rally Sport Kit II car on the elevenparts site http://www.elevenparts.com/ item 409. All the good gear is obviously under the skin as it looks almost like a standard S. The sports seats are a nice touch as are the brackets for the strut brace.

look at the page "porsche cars"

    Unfortnately the car is sold

" Unfortunately the car is sold." Hugh I was the lucky buyer. I have been cleaning it up. It is a really neat car. More pictures soon.
