Midwest RGruppe drive to Sonoma....now sponsered by Stoddard!

Two weeks to go and I am pumped for the trip! The "S" is at the alignment shop as we speak and only a few details to work out before the big day!

When we started planning this trip, Anthony at Stoddard was impressed by our group of Midwest guys planning to drive our early cars all the way to California. After some discussion within thier organization, they generously offered to help out with a portion of our gas bill for the trip. We are thrilled that Stoddard would support thier "local" enthusiasts in this way but also that they are in tune with what is going on in the early car hobby. Thanks Stoddard!

I'm envious. I wanted to make the trip with you guys as a "self-proclaimed" SouthEast representative. But the timing did not work out. So will you be writing this trip up for an Excellence article Dave?

I haven't given up on the Cayenne Turbo S demo stocked with spare parts and a mechanic as a chase vehicle. We've still got 2 weeks to twist Anthony's arm a bit .....

Not until he learns to spell 'their' correctly. Just kidding 'Captain Dave'.

Yes special thanks to Stoddards for doing this for us. With fuel at $3.00/gal and climbing this will certainly help. Special thanks too for Curt for helping to put this together.

Just went LA (starting at TRE, to be exact) to Charlotte in my "new" '80 SC. 2,579 miles. Averaged 24 MPG and I kept all gas receipts. Total cost was a bit under $400. I didn't pay under $3.00/gal for mid-grade until I hit Texas.

It is a great trip, I've done it 3 times now, twice in my former '70 Targa. Doing it as a "group drive" will only make it more fun. Enjoy!

you guys are going to have a great time! ive done this trip from ohio to solvang, ca the last 3 years in a row. nothing is better than driving than a cross country drive. Which route are you taking? I recomend taking US highways, and b routes, and staying off the freeways. if you want some recomendations, i know a few routes that you guys would love (and i have done it by going through the south west, as well as central and northern routes).

Our plan is to head south and west, eventually ending up in LA. We have no route. We have no lodging. We have no schedule.

Hal - you've gone to the dark side?!

Try to hit Santa Fe, NM. It is one of our favorite places. Lot to do and see plus good food. And do some part of Historic Route 66. Pretty cool too.

Dark side? Well, kind of. . . Sort of. I love long distance drives like we did to Rennsport or Hershey for Parade but the Targa was beating me up pretty bad. Found a good deal on a great SC and just went for it. Entirely different car and experience, but I love it, especially the A/C!
