    Interesting backdated Carrera

    Here she is:

It's up to you for commentary. I like it. If it was a targa, I'd buy it.

What does it take to put early look bumpers on a crash bumper car ?

Do you need to change the front fenders ?

    thanks Dave

Depends. You need the early fenders for the front and a long hood, regardless of method. The fron bulkhead can be tackled two way. The first is to weld in an early bulkhead and slam panel. This is the hard way. I ahve read thread on Pelican where some industrious guys had developed a kit that would allow you to use a long hood, with a short hood slam panel and bulkhead.

    Yeah, that would be Series900...

The pelican backdating thread is here:

Here's an example of Series900's "kit" here:

The original fenders and bulkhead are retained. A fiberglass hood and filler peices (behind the turnsignals) are used.

Steel is the only way to go...

Backdates are getting more and more popular as the early cars' values continue to climb. Pretty soon, it'll be more cost effective to backdate rather than restore.

Keep one thing in mind: you can't backdate "driving experience". A late-model car will always drive and feel like a late-model car ...
