Thread: WTB 4 OEM-style Fuchs

    WTB 4 OEM-style Fuchs

I'd like to find a set of 4 OEM style 6x15 Fuchs for my '72. No chromed, polished or painted - just the way the Lord and Porsche intended.

Prefer not to refurb, but I'm willing to send to Al Reed if necessary.

Any and all help is appreciated.

    Thanks!

Ahhhh the sixties... I envision myself one early Saturday morning wearing plaid shorts, black shoes with white socks smoking a cigarette heading to the hardware store to buy a bag of nails.
SWB cars are an acquired taste however once acquired theirs no turning back.

Some people prefer Vanilla to Chocolate, but Harvey Weidman is Haagen Daas to Al Reed's Breyer's. Just a heads up.

MMMMMMMM Haagen Daas, My one true vice. Other than PCars that is. I have had a mouth full of PCar underneath grime, grit and oil but, doesn't taste as good. It's an acquired taste.

I respectifully disagree. I think Al Reed is VERY good. I have been very happy with the product and service from Al and Diane. If anyone would like to see their work I'll have my 70S at the Greenwich Concours and also at the PCA CVR show in Litchfield. Please stop by and say hello.

Sounds good; I used Harvey and loved his work, thus why I recommend him. I've never heard of any problems regarding Harvey's work, ever. I have heard some quibbles about Al, specifically regarding his use of clear powder coating in lieu of the proper and original anodization. Admittedly, this is all second hand info regarding Al, so I'll take Tom's recommendation ahead of any commentary I have.

I'm sure both gentlemen do fine work. I mentioned Al Reed because I've used him in the past.

So, now that we've settled that ... can we get back to finding some nice wheels? The old gal looks great in steel, but I'd like to see the Fuchs thing again.

I have had Al do two sets of wheels with original anodized finish and they were excellent. He subs out the anodizing process (as does Harvey, I'm sure) but he will refinish to OEM spec, it's just that a polished and painted finish is cheaper and quicker, so many people opt to skip the anodizing. He has a powdercoater next door to him, so it is easy and quick to have the clear coating done as well, but that is not a good idea, IMHO. I would not have a clear powder coating done on a Fuchs wheel-- I think it is a mistake, but many people request it from him and he does it for them. After a few road/mounting chips get put into the coating, and moisture makes it's way underneath and begins to spread, the clear coat can lift, cloud, etc. (not to mention UV degradation, which is inevitable.) Proper anodizing is definitely the best finish, but some people like the bling of a bright polish and clearcoat. To each his own.

ps- two examples of Al's work attached (both sets anodized)
